A1.1.1 Introduction to Water (Demo) 💧

Water is essential for life on Earth. It is a polar molecule, meaning it has slightly charged regions that allow it to form hydrogen bonds. These unique properties make water vital for biological processes. Its high specific heat helps regulate temperature, its solvent abilities enable biochemical reactions, and its cohesive and adhesive forces support transport in plants and animals. In IB Biology, understanding water’s structure and properties provides the foundation for exploring cell biology, metabolism, and ecosystems.
