Introduction to Alkali Metals (Demo)
The alkali metals, found in Group 1 of the periodic table, are a highly reactive family of elements that includes lithium, sodium, and potassium. These metals each have one electron in their outer shell, making them eager to lose it and form +1 ions. As a result, they react vigorously with water, oxygen, and halogens. Their reactivity increases down the group, while their melting points decrease. Studying alkali metals helps illustrate important periodic trends and provides insight into how atomic structure influences chemical behaviour.
